Viparita Virabhadrasana

(Reverse Warrior)

I absolutely love the expression of this pose!

Reverse Warrior is an excellent pose to open up the hips, stretch the side body, improve flexibility of the spine, strengthen the lower body and feel like a dancing warrior yourself. To get yourself into this beautiful pose first do a few sun salutations to warm up the body.

Now when you’re ready from Warrior 2, with right knee bend, inhale lengthen from the base of the spine all the way up to the head, reaching your right arm up next to your ear and bringing your left arm towards the back of your left leg.
On an exhale press the navel towards the spine and lift the belly up, lengthen the tailbone down and sink further into the pose by walking the left arm down the left leg a little further (without losing the core-connection!!) and reaching the right arm up and to the back even more. Gaze at your fingertips.

The tendency in this pose will be to straighten the bend leg so focus on keeping it bend, knee directly over the ankle. Another tendency is to lean into the lower back too much. Focus on using your core-muscles to keep you up into the pose. Think of reaching up and back!!

Feel the space you’re creating and enjoy the expression of the pose!!
